Could you support Bradford on Avon & District Link Scheme as a volunteer?
Volunteer Information
Do you live in Bradford on Avon or the surrounding areas? Could you spare some time to offer transport and support to a person in need?
Bradford on Avon & District Link Scheme is always looking for people to support our service as a volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to stay active, meet new people and help vulnerable and isolated residents in your community. Please see below for more information about the different roles on offer – drivers, Co-ordinators and committee members.
Following an interview and DBS check*, volunteers are issued with a driver’s information pack, an identification badge and a “Hospital Car” card.
*Note, all prospective volunteers will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Volunteer Drivers
Volunteer Drivers collect clients from their home and take them to medical appointments and other health-related trips. A mileage allowance and out-of-pocket expenses are paid to Volunteer Drivers.
Our drivers can choose how frequently and how far they would like to drive – some prefer short trips whilst others undertake trips as far as Bristol. Drivers have access to a database showing brief details of journeys coming up so they can volunteer for a trip that works for them. It is usual for our drivers to wait and bring a client home. At present, we only recruit drivers who live in the area we service, which keeps our mileage costs as low as possible.
Link Co-ordinators
Link Co-ordinators are responsible for answering calls from clients and liaising with our team of Volunteer Drivers. Link Coordinators may need to prioritise requests for help with transport, depending on volunteer numbers.
Our Co-ordinators currently work for two consecutive days per month, from their own home. The rota is drawn up by consultation a month in advance. A laptop and a mobile phone owned by Link is passed around the Co-ordinators.
Committee Members
There are a variety of ways volunteers can be involved with helping to organise and oversee our service, supporting volunteers and maintaining links with other community and volunteer organisations locally.
We are always looking for new volunteers to support Bradford on Avon & District Link Scheme. If you want to meet new people, make friends and give something back to your community, we want to hear from you!
